Peter Auto have released details of a 37-car provisional entry for the Group C race at July’s Le Mans Classic, with a wide mix of cars covering the whole period when the fuel-economy formula ruled sportscars racing. Ten Porsche 962s of varying vintage are entered, though sadly there are no 956s currently listed, with five Spices and host of the more seldom recognised marques who built Group C cars.
A brace of Lancia LC2s from the early 1980s should provide a fine site at the event, while Peter Garrod’s Lola T92/10 will remind anyone present back then of the 1992 24-Hours when two of these Judd V10-powered chassis were entered and one finished, though 80-laps down. The latter period of Group C is also represented by Dominique Geunat’s Peugeot 905 EVO, and the rapid Michael Lyons in his Gebhardt C291.
Some of the lesser spotted cars that have gained entries include a 1982 Sthemo SM, an early C2 racer that retired after 41-laps of the 1984 24-Hours, a 1983 Aba AR2, and its pleasing to see a brace of EMKAs entered.
The Group C race does not form part of the Classic 24-Hours itself with their 45-miute race set for 11.45am on Saturday 9th of July – a fitting prelude to the 24-hours of racing to follow
