Impressive Group C Entry for Le Mans Classic

Peter Auto have released a list of current provisional entries for the Group C race at July’s Le Mans Classic, with 28 cars currently entered and more to be expected.

As usual Porsche and Jaguar are well represented, as our the quick and reliable Spices. With the list currently omitting driver’s first names, if our educated guess is correct then a Spice worth looking out for could be the SE89P of Rob Huff, always rapid and committed in anything he races and a driver who should provide great entertainment at Le Mans.

As ever it is a delight to see the lesser known marques represented, Martin O’Connell took the quick but fragile Alba to a win in Group C last year, while the Italian GKW 862 is a rare beast, and we will off checking the records to see if it actually raced in period as memory of the 1988 season has it as ‘nearly’ car, certainly at the early races.

The mystery of Jenson Button deepens. After announcing his participation in a Jaguar on the event’s twitter feed, organisers then deleted that post, but the only XJR-9 on the list has ‘TBA’ for the driver. We have heard whispers that the 2009 Formula One champion will take part, but that the gun was proverbially jumped on the announcement, more to come there we think!
