There will be a strong Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance presence at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca next week with Bill Warner, founder and chairman of the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, competing in an ex-Group 44 Trans-Am/IMSA GTO TR-8 .
The ‘racers’ concours’ will live up to its nickname entering the championship-winning Triumph TR-8 in Race Group 5A (3:50 to 4:10 PM) on Saturday August 17 celebrating the 50th anniversary of IMSA, the International Motor Sports Assn.
“Florida’s First Coast will be well represented at ‘Reunion’ this year,” said Warner. “Ross Bremer of Atlantic Beach will be running his IMSA Ford Escort in the same race and Hurley Haywood - our 1998 Amelia Honoree - is the Grand Marshall.”
The ex-Group 44 Trans-Am/IMSA GTO TR-8 will wear traditional Group 44 white-and-green livery. “I promise it’s period correct," said Warner, “I’m a purist."
“We also wish to acknowledge our faithful fans and our occasionally reluctant sponsors,” said Bill Warner, “Especially our founding sponsors...the Social Security Administration and the AAARARP*.”
