Bowe Holds Off Brassington for Second Adelaide Win

A stern challenge from Adam Bressington’s Whiteline Racing Chevrolet Camaro wasn’t quite enough to unseat John Bowe’s run at the pointy-end of the Touring Car Masters field, today at the Clipsal 500. Bowe took his second win from two starts this morning, however it was Bressington who applied the most pressure and became the first person to lead Bowe’s Torana this year when he jumped to the point on the first lap.

The Yellow Camaro edged out Bowe though the Senna chicane, though Bowe worked his way past a lap later to assume a lead he’d never lose. Once in front he eased away to another win, re-setting the TCM lap record in Adelaide to 1m29.2812s in the process.

Bressington was a safe second - however behind him there was a huge contest for the final spot in the top three. Ryan Hansford briefly held the spot on lap one; however steering damage on the opening lap ruled out the Multispares Torana that had impressed on Friday.

Jason Gomersall was briefly third in his A9X Torana, but dropped to sixth place on the fifth lap during a four-way dice that included Andrew Fisher, Mark King and Cameron Tilley. Fisher then assumed third place and was able to hold the spot through to the end of the race, delivering the brand-new Falcon GTHO its first TCM podium.

Mark King also improved one spot from the first race, grabbing fourth to continue the strong from from the Adelaide-based Whiteline Racing this weekend.

Steven Johnson finished fifth, charging from 18th place in Mustang Sally after yesterday’s unfortunate non-finish. Gomersall was sixth in the BigMate Torana, Jim Richards seventh in the Shannons AMC Javelin and Brad Tilley eighth in his Ford Mustang.

Tony Karanfilovski and Adam Garwood finished ninth and tenth, despite contact between the Mustang and Torana saw the young Tasmanian spun through 360-degrees after contact in the final corner early in the race.

Cameron Tilley was a non-finisher in the Anglomoil Pacer after a strong showing early in the race, while Rory O’Neill and Hansford were also non-finishers.

Leo Tobin won ProSports by finishing 15th outright in his THD Motorsport Ford Mustang.

South Aussie Bernie Stack levelled the score in the all-Porsche IROC Challenge affair, beating race one winner Sven Burchartz by less than 0.3 seconds today – Manny Palyaris third.

The third and final race of the weekend will see the TCM Trophy Race contested over 10-laps on Sunday morning at 9:20am.
